The number of measles cases in the United States is approaching a record.
More than 500 cases were reported this year.
That’s the second-highest number for the United States in 25 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
But it’s not just the U.S. being affected.
The World Health Organization reported there were more than 100,000 measles cases worldwide for the first three months of 2019.
That’s up nearly 300% from the same period last year.
Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in the year 2000.
And that won’t change unless the disease is continuously transmitted for longer than 12 months.
