The Gulf coast was battered by rain this weekend, leading to intense flooding throughout the region.
In Mississippi, the the Coast Guard rescued two men and three dogs after they were stranded in rapidly-rising waters near Poplarville .
The Coast Guard sent a rescue chopper to help, but bad weather forced a delay.
But when the crew arrived a couple of hours later, they were able to hoist the two men and the animals to safety.
They were then transported to a nearby hospital.
The crew says, even with heavy rain, low visibility and lightning, they were able to make the rescue thanks to their training.
