When you think of a dairy farm, many imagine a red barn amongst rolling green pastures, but how about a harbor?
Well, the world’s first floating dairy farm is now a reality in the Netherlands.
32 cows have set up home on the three-story-high structure in Rotterdam, which was fabricated following a circular design principle.
The farm processes the milk into dairy products while also collecting their manure.
In addition to that, the farm also desalinates seawater and produces energy using its solar panels.
It’s so effective, in fact, that most of its facilities are capable of operating unmanned.
The farm offers one solution to the problem of feeding future generations as sea levels continue to rise, which is a problem in the Netherlands, as much of the country is under sea-level.
