The house has passed a measure within the $733 billion National Defense Authorization Act to block a strike on Iran.
The measure will stop the president from using Defense Department funds for military action in the Islamic Republic.
The only way that the administration could go through with a strike under the measure would be if congress approved it.
It would, however, allow the president to respond to a strike on the U.S.
It’s unclear whether the measure would pass the Senate, as a similar move was recently blocked.
Critics argue that restricting the president’s power while Iran threatens the U.S. Is dangerous.
The measure also comes after Iran attempted to seize a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
