A Milwaukee, Wisconsin bus driver is being honored for rescuing a baby girl that she saw wandering around the street.
It happened December 22nd, while Irena Ivic was driving.
The lost baby was wandering alone on a freeway overpass, barefoot and wearing only a onesie and diaper.
Ivic stopped her bus, ran across the busy street, picked up the crying child, and carried her to safety.
As Ivic called for help, a passenger gave up her coat the child, who was cold to the touch in the freezing temperatures.
Ivic also comforted the girl, who soon fell asleep in her arms.
Rescue crews soon arrived on scene and reported that the baby was unharmed.
According to police, the child had been left outside by her mother, who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.
Ivic says she’s just grateful that she was able to help.
Authorities eventually reunited the baby with her father.
Ivic says that if faced with another lost child, she’d do it all over again.
Officials say this is the ninth lost or missing child found by Milwaukee bus drivers in recent years.
