North Carolina congressman Walter Jones died Sunday at age 76.
His office said he entered hospice care after his health declined following a hip break in mid-January.
The Washington post reports the republican lawmaker died on his 76th birthday.
His office said he represented the people of eastern North Carolina in congress and the state legislature for more than 34 years.
The statement from his office says, “Congressman Jones was a man of the people. With a kind heart and the courage of his convictions, he dedicated his life to serving his savior and to standing up for Americans who needed a voice.”
