The Secretary of the Air Force has announced that she will resign at the end of the month.
In a letter to President Trump, Secretary Heather Wilson says that she is the finalist for president of the University of Texas at El Paso.
Wilson was the first military secretary to be confirmed under the Trump administration, serving since May of 2017.
She previously served as a congresswoman for her home state of New Mexico and as president of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Wilson says “it has been a privilege to serve alongside our Airmen of over the past two years.”
She also touted the branch’s success, including improving readiness and strengthening its ability to deter and dominate in space.
In a tweet Thursday, President Trump thanked Wilson for her service.
