Autonomous Vessels to Join Navy by the End of 2021
Posted On January 14, 2021

A joint naval program is celebrating a new milestone for the future of robotics.
This week, the Department of Defense announces a successful mission of the Ghost Fleet Overlord Program.
In it, an autonomous vessel representing the Department of Defense Strategic Capabilities Office and the U.S. Navy completed over 47-hundred nautical miles almost entirely alone. After which, the vessel worked for over 130 hours alongside human counterparts in the Navy’s annual Operation Dawn Blitz.
According to a release, the plan is to have 2 automated vessels join the Navy by the end of 2021, with 2 more joining in the years to come.
