Biden To Reform Immigration, Automatically Give Green Cards To Migrants With TPS, DACA
(AP) U.S. President-elect Joe Biden says he’ll introduce immigration legislation to Congress “immediately” after taking office later this month.
Other priorities listed by the president-elect included countermanding Trump executive orders that Biden deemed against U.S. interests and pursing funding to distribute the coronavirus vaccine.
Two, three different issues there in that same question. One, the commitments I made what I would I would introduce not necessarily we would move to and introduce in the United States Congress first. I will do. I will introduce an immigration bill immediately. And have it sent to the appropriate committees to begin movement. I will, in fact, countermand executive orders that the president has in fact, initiated that are contrary to what I think is either his authority and or even if it’s an authority contrary to the interests of the United States, on environmental issues and the whole range of other things. And thirdly, I will immediately move, though, the most urgent need of asking the Congress to give me the financial wherewithal to deal with the virus, to deal with the virus, to be able to move so that we have Operation Warp speed really working. Warp Speed got the the the vaccine to places that were delivered but did not get them from those vials into people’s arms. And so it is a gigantic logistical concern of how we do that. I’m committed to get 100 million shots in people’s arms in the first 100 days. I’m committed to insisting that an all federal jurist evictions any place I have control as president, everyone will be mandated to wear a mask and an interstate transportation as well as federal facilities and thirdly, I’m committed to moving as rapidly as possible to get the vaccine to teachers and the material to children that can provide for the safe opening of our schools. At the end of that beginning at the end of that 100 days, they’re the most urgent things we have to do, now.”
With eight days left in his presidency, President Donald Trump was in Alamo, Texas Tuesday, hailing his administration’s progress on curbing illegal immigration as well as his major 2016 campaign promise: the wall along the southern border.
Trump’s speech in Texas marked his first appearance in public since the Capitol siege, which came as lawmakers were tallying Electoral College votes affirming President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Trump said he was celebrating the “completion of the promised 450 miles of border wall.”
The president also urged the incoming administration not to stray from his border security policies, warning if they do, “it will trigger a tidal wave of illegal immigration, a wave like you’ve never seen before.”
“To terminate those policies is knowingly to put America in really serious danger,” Trump said.
In the end, his administration has overseen the construction of roughly 450 miles of border wall construction – likely reaching 475 miles by Inauguration Day.
“No matter our party, we should all agree on the need to protect our workers, our families and our citizens of all backgrounds, no matter who they are. In particular if our border security measures are reversed, it will trigger a tidal wave of illegal immigration, a wave like you’ve never seen before. And I can tell you that already waves are starting to come up from 2000 and 1000 and 500 miles away. We see what’s coming and they’re coming because they think that it’s gravy train at the end, it’s going to be a gravy train. Change the name from the caravans, which I think we came up with to the gravy train because that’s what they’re looking for, looking for the gravy. This will be an unmitigated calamity for national security, public safety and public health. It would destroy millions and millions of jobs and claim thousands of innocent lives. The policies I put into place are uniformly and strongly supported by the men and women of ICE and Border Patrol.”
“To terminate those policies is knowingly to put America and really serious danger and to override the great career experts that have worked so hard, those from DHS. At this very moment, smugglers and coyotes are preparing to surge the border if our policies are loosened or removed. I mean, they’re literally waiting big, big groups of people, some of them very unsavory. I might add. This is an entirely preventable tragedy waiting to happen. The safety of our nation must come before politics. We have many disagreements in the country, but we should all agree the urgent need to secure our borders, protect our homeland and allow law enforcement to fulfill its mission without political interference.”
