Democrats Engage In Plan ‘B’ After Senate Parliamentarian Struck Down $15 Minimum Wage Hike

The Senate Finance Committee Has Announced A Plan ‘B’ For The $15 Dollar An Hour Minimum Wage Hike After The Senate Parliamentarian Decided Lawmakers Could Not Include It In The Covid 19 Bill.
According To Elizabeth Macdonough, The Chamber’s Nonpartisan Arbiter Of Its Rules, The Measure Does Not Pass The
Requirements To Be Included In The Reconciliation Process Which Allows Democrats To Bypass Any Support From Republicans In Passing The Bill.
Simply Put, The Rules State That If Provisions Are Related To Other Policy Purposes And Do Not Have A Direct Connect To Covid-19 Relief Then They Cannot Be Included.
Republicans Cheered The Decision Saying That They Are Pleased With The Senates Decision To Stick By Traditional Rules, While Progressives Are Upset And Calling On Vice President Kamala Harris To Disregard The Decision And Push The Wage Hike Through.
President Biden Said He Respected The Decision, But Will Work With Leaders In Congress To Decide The Best Path Forward.
But Now As A Means To Get To The $15 Dollars An Hour The Democrats Plan To Impose A 5% Tax Penalty On Large Corporations If Any Of Their Workers Earn Less Than A Certain Amount, With The Penalty Increasing Over Time.
Senator Chuck Schumer Said He Is Looking To Add The Provision To The Covid-19 Relief Bill.
