Dept. of Defense to Continue Investigations into Sexual Assault and Extremism in the Military
WASHINGTON – –
The U.S. Department of Defense announced that two internal investigations into sexual assault and extremism within the military are underway respectively.
This Monday, Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby says investigations into sexual assault in the military will begin work soon, however, the commission has 90 days to compile its recommendations.
Additionally, the secretary of defense issued a video for active members of the military. The goal is to specifically addressing extremism in response to the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol Building. This after investigations showed that veterans and military personnel had been affiliated with extremism views.
Secretary Austin said the investigations may seem like another assignment but asks that members take it seriously.
In that video, the secretary says, “you know I’ve seen this before, I’ve lived through it as a soldier and as a commander. It’s not new to our country and sadly, it’s not new to our military.”
