Despite an attempt by the U.S. to seize an Iranian oil tanker detained by Gibraltar early last month, it has been released.
British royal marines boarded and detained the supertanker Grace 1 in July for allegedly violating sanctions on Syria.
The tanker was carrying 2.1 million barrels of oil at the time of detention.
In the wake of that incident, Iran later seized a British-operated tanker in response.
Now the Grace 1 has been released from Gibraltar custody, along with its 24 Indian crew members.
That is despite the application from the U.S. Justice Department, who Gibraltar’s government said leveled multiple allegations.
According to Gibraltar’s court, they did not receive an application, but the government will consider the application it received for a future seizure.
