A Los Angeles Lakers victory over the Miami Heat during the NBA finals lead to massive celebrations in downtown LA Sunday night.
“People were all in the streets, my friends couldn’t get home or anything so it was crazy to see that,” said Delaney Pence Monday.
About 1,000 people came out to cheer the team’s win. The gathering was initially peaceful but police said some became unruly.
By Monday morning seventy-six people had been arrested, eight police officers were injured and more than 30 businesses vandalized downtown.
“I think everybody is ready to just flare up for basically any motive they have and I think it just struck a nerve,” said Juan Cueva, who lives in Los Angeles. “Finally something positive but I hope people can celebrate being courteous to others, that’s all that we need to do really.”
Police added three people were taken to the hospital.
