Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says he will stay in the position, even if the president asks him to leave.
Powell made those comments while testifying to the House Financial Services Committee, maintaining that he will serve out his four-year term.
The fed chair was chosen by the president early in his administration, but recently, Powell has been criticized by the white house.
Trump wants the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, which hasn’t been done in a decade.
But during his remarks, Powell did open up the possibility for a rate cut sometime soon.
He said the fed will “act as appropriate” to maintain the economic expansion.
