A series of protests are expected to continue in Hong Kong over the weekend, as violent clashes break out with police at the border with mainland China.
Hong Kong police used pepper spray on protestors gathered near the border.
Protesters have pledged to take the movement out of the city’s economic center and into districts further afield, including towns close to mainland China.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam said this week the controversial extradition bill is “dead” and that “deep-seated fundamental problems” were not addressed in Hong Kong and allowed to fester.
Protest groups could mobilize in reaction to lam’s ambiguity surrounding the fugitives bill and whether it will ever return to the LegCo chamber.
