For more than two decades, the Chinese have dominated the sport of diving. They always seem to win the gold, in every single event in both men and women in the Olympics.
But in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, one American woman from the Houston, Texas area had other thoughts in mind. She pulled off a shocker winning a gold in the women’s 10 meter platform, while battling injuries. In the process, she ended a United States gold medal drought in that event.
