Moviefone may sound like a blast from the past but the company is actually still around.
The show-listings-by-telephone service just sold to a mystery bidder for roughly a million dollars.
That was a much more impressive number last century, back in the 1990’s, when movie-phone was widely used, but it’s a fraction of what the company was recently worth.
In 1999, AOL , which is now part of Verizon, bought Moviefone for $388 million.
AOL shuttered Moviefone’s 777-FILM phone number in 2014 and moved the service online.
Verizon later sold it in 2018 for $23 million.
