The Patriots have been punished by the league.
The Pats are fined for $1.1 million dollars for inappropriately filming the Cincinnati Bengals’ sideline during a game last season. The Patriots are also losing a third-round pick for the upcoming draft, plus the team’s production crew will not be allowed to shoot any games for the upcoming season. The filming happened at the Bengals and Browns game in Cleveland, last December. The Bengals hosted the Patriots the following week and lost 34-13. When the taping became known last season, the team said at the time the crew was producing a web series about their scouting department. The filming took place, without specific knowledge of league rules. The Pats were granted credentials for that game from the Browns. The Patriots say the crew immediately turned over all footage to the league and cooperated fully. At the time, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says neither he nor his coaches watched any of the video.
