Still, competition in the National League West is tough, and Los Angeles still trails the first-place Giants by a half-game. Los Angeles begins a series against the Marlins in Miami tonight. San Francisco gets a visit from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chicago is three shy of the longest losing streak by a team following a no-hitter, set in 1925 after Brooklyn’s Dazzy Vance held Philadelphia hitless. Chicago begins a four-game series at Wrigley Field against the Phillies tonight.

UNDATED (AP) — Shohei Ohtani (SHOH’-hay oh-TAH’-nee) is the first player selected to the All-Star Game as both a hitter and pitcher. The Angels’ two-way sensation was one of the American League pitchers picked by players, managers and coaches in balloting announced yesterday. Ohtani had already been elected by fans as the AL’s starting DH for the July 13 showcase at Coors Field. He leads the majors with 31 home runs. The Angels host the Boston Red Sox tonight.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Ons Jabeur has became the first Arab woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating former French Open champion Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. It was the first match completed on Wimbledon’s Manic Monday, when all the men’s and women’s fourth-round matches are played. Minutes later, No. 2-seeded Aryna Sabalenka reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal by beating Elena Rybakina 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. On the men's side, Matteo Berrettini has become the first Italian man in 23 years to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals by easing past unseeded Ilya Ivashka 6-4, 6-3, 6-1.
