American Airlines Attendants Return, June Retail Sales Surge
A big news day for American Airlines.
The air career is set to cancel its voluntary leave for its staffers.
The Dallas based airline will recall 3,300 flight attendants as demand surges. They’re expected to return by November or December just in time for the holiday travel surge. Not only that but the airline is slated to hire even more flight attendants. It will bring on 800 by March of next year. This comes amid increased demand for air travel over the last few months as economies reopen and vaccinations continue. According to the Transportation Security Administration, more and more people are hitting the skies. Over the fourth of July weekend more people went through the nation’s airport security checkpoints than anytime since the pandemic began.
However it’s not all good news for the air carrier.
American Airlines is under fire for resuming political donations to Republican lawmakers who voted against the certification of the 2020 Presidential electionAn election that former President Donald Trump’s own national security officials called the most secure election in American history. . This is according to some new reporting from the Washington Post. The airline’s PAC gave $2500 to the Republican House Representative Sam Graves who was one of the 147 Republican who voted against the certification. Grave sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The Federal government is taking on Amazon.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission filed a lawsuit against the e-commerce giant to force a recall over some products sold on the site that have been deemed hazardous. This includes items ranging from faulty carbon monoxide detectors to flammable pajamas. The company has since pulled the products from the site but regulators say the move is still “insufficient”
Meanwhile U.S. retail sales jumped in June.
This is according to the Commerce Department report out earlier today. Sales rose by more than half a percentage point from the month prior. The move was unexpected. Economists actually forecasted a drop of about three tenths of a percentage point. This rebound comes after an almost 2% decline in May. Some of the biggest gains came from Department stores. That came in almost 6% higher month over month. Food services also ticked up by more than two percentage points. This comes as more people resume dining out. Not all sectors preformed so hot. The automotive industry actually saw a 2% decline.

Netflix is making moves to enter the video game market. This was first reported by Bloomberg. The move is not immediate though. The new feature isn’t expected to launch until next year. Some good news for the financially conscious gamer. The extra feature reportedly won’t come with an extra charge.
