New California Law to Require Gender Neutral Toy Sections
CALIFORNIA
The state of California becomes the first state to designate special sections at retail stores as gender neutral for children.
This weekend, Governor Gavin Newsom is presented with AB1084 Gender neutral retail departments.
The new law says that beginning on January 1, 2024 the state of California will require retail department stores that sells childcare items or toys to maintain a gender neutral section or areas for toys or items regardless if they're marketed for either boys or girls.
The rule would apply to stores with 500 or more employees across the entire state.
The law aims to minimize unjustified differences in similar products, making it more easy to consumers to see the differences if they are displaced closer to one another.
