U.S. Volunteers Look to Fight for Ukraine

It appears more than just governments are lining up to support Ukraine as the nation’s embassy in Washington takes an unexpected role: recruiting Americans who want to join the fight.
While the U.S. government discourages Americans from going to fight in Ukraine over legal and national security concerns, diplomats working out of the embassy in a townhouse in the Georgetown section of Washington D.C. have fielded around 6,000 offers from volunteers.
Half were quickly rejected and didn’t even make it to the Zoom interview because they lacked the required military experience, had a criminal background or weren’t suitable for other reasons such as age or couldn't be accurately vetted.
Still, officials at the embassy appreciate the support.
