Venezuela’s poverty has reached the highest level in the country’s history, according to a new survey.
The Yearly National Living Conditions Survey, done by three of the top universities in the country, shows the country is only behind Nigeria in terms of poverty and inequality.
The study was carried out between November 2019 and March 2020 and the results place the country among the most impoverished and politically unstable countries in the world.
Venezuela even surpassed Haiti to position it as the poorest in Latin America.
The study’s authors explain that among the values that influence this increase in poverty are the fall in national GDP, the deterioration of income, and the worsening of unemployment.
