President Trump says he and Russian President Vladimir Putin didn’t talk about alleged bounties against U.S. troops in Afghanistan during a recent call.
The comment comes in an interview with HBO’s Axios that was released Wednesday.
A European intelligence official said last month that Russian intelligence officers offered money to Taliban fighters in Afghanistan for killing U.S. or British troops.
Trump says he has never discussed it with Putin, but he would have no problem talking about it with him.
At the same time, Trump also downplayed the validity of the intelligence, saying many people call the alleged bounties “fake news.”
The interview will air Monday on HBO.
The White House has said there was a lack of consensus in the intelligence community about the bounty issue.
